Maithili Guise Tucker

I was born in Sri Lanka and grew up in England. I now live in Surrey with my husband, three children and mini sausage dog. It was our mix of cultures, family histories and combined adventures that inspired me to start painting when our children were born, to capture it all.

I have always been creative but my background couldn’t be more removed from the world of art. I have a degree in Medical Science and have practiced in Occupational Psychology most of my career. That said, I think it is the detail and the interest in people required for these disciplines, coupled with my inherently meticulous tendencies, which is central to the kind of art I love to produce now.

My creations and the media I use are diverse because I enjoy the variety but they are all underpinned with the same precision. It is not my primary objective to be a specialist in any one area. Sparking those who look at my artwork to smile is my main intention. That could be because of kooky titles, like Dead Pretty or Choose Life, or it could be because a commission tells a client’s story or captures treasured memories.

My work can be bought by contacting me directly or at local exhibitions. If you would like to see my work outside of exhibitions, I’d be delighted for you to visit me in my studio. Some of my best commissions have resulted from clients who booked a consultation without any idea what exactly they wanted. Don’t feel you need to have a clear brief. We can figure it out together over a drink and a chat!
